Chinese Winter Solstice!

The Chinese Winter Solstice, also known as Dongzhi Festival, falls on December 22nd this year.

This is a significant occasion celebrated with family gatherings, feasting on traditional foods like tangyuan, (sweet glutinous rice dumplings) which is not only delicious but also holds cultural significance, symbolizing increase of positive energy, family unity and harmony.

Tangyuan are often served plain in a sweet broth or rolled in a mixture of ingredients like crushed nuts, sesame seeds, or desiccated coconut. You can also find tangyuan filled with sweet fillings, such as sesame paste, red bean paste, or peanuts.
